Our Story
Macon Needlepoint Co. is Middle Georgia's first dedicated needlepoint boutique. Here's why this shop needs to exist.
The Problem
If you're a needlepoint stitcher in Middle Georgia, you know the reality. The nearest shop with hand-painted canvases, quality threads, and knowledgeable staff is over 85 miles away in Atlanta. For years, stitchers across Macon, Warner Robins, Milledgeville, Perry, and the surrounding region have relied on online orders, long drives to Atlanta, or making do with whatever they could find locally.
There are wonderful sewing and quilting shops in the area, and a few cross-stitch retailers. But needlepoint is its own world with its own materials, techniques, and community. A quilting shop can't help you choose between Silk & Ivory and Vineyard Silk for a specific canvas. An online order can't show you how a thread catches the light or how a color reads against a particular painted design.
Middle Georgia has the stitchers. It just hasn't had the shop. Until now.
"We're closing the gap for Middle Georgia stitchers."
What We're Building
Macon Needlepoint Co. is a luxury needlepoint boutique opening in North Macon, Georgia in 2026. We're building the kind of shop that stitchers in this part of the state have been driving hours to find: a place where you can browse hand-painted canvases in person, get honest advice about threads and techniques, and sit down with other stitchers who share your love for the craft.
We're not trying to be everything to everyone. We're focused entirely on needlepoint, and we're building every part of this shop around the needs of the people who do it. That means curated inventory instead of overwhelming selection. Knowledgeable guidance instead of a self-service shelf. Community events instead of just transactions.
Hand-painted canvases on 13 and 18 mesh from top designers. Premium threads including Silk & Ivory, Vineyard Silk, and DMC. Tapestry needles, stretcher bars, and accessories. Plus Macon-exclusive designs you won't find anywhere else.
Our Beginner Bootcamp teaches first-time stitchers everything they need to know. Sip & Stitch social evenings bring experienced stitchers together. And our open stitch lounge is a place to work on projects alongside friends, new and old.
When your stitched canvas is ready to become a pillow, ornament, or framed piece, we handle the entire finishing process. No more shipping your heirloom out of state on your own. We're your local intake point, working with trusted finishing partners.
Why Macon
Macon, Georgia has a rich tradition of arts, craftsmanship, and community. It's a city where people value quality, take pride in what they create, and show up for one another. It's also a city that has been underserved when it comes to needlepoint.
We chose Macon because this is where the need is greatest. The stitching community here is real and it's growing. We see it in the interest from stitchers across Warner Robins, Milledgeville, Perry, Forsyth, and towns throughout Middle Georgia who have been waiting for a local option. We see it in the response every time we share a canvas preview on Instagram.
Macon Needlepoint Co. isn't a franchise or a chain. It's an independent shop built specifically for this community. The canvases we carry, the classes we offer, and the events we host will all reflect the place we call home.
The Craft
Needlepoint is the art of stitching with a blunt tapestry needle and colorful threads on a stiff, open-weave canvas. Unlike cross-stitch, which uses X-shaped stitches on soft fabric, needlepoint covers the entire canvas with stitches like basketweave and continental tent stitch. And unlike embroidery, which adds decorative detail on top of existing cloth, needlepoint creates a dense, durable fabric from scratch.
Most needlepoint starts with a hand-painted canvas: a design painted directly onto the mesh by an artist. From there, you choose your threads, pick up a tapestry needle, and begin filling in the design stitch by stitch. The finished piece can become almost anything: a throw pillow, a Christmas ornament, a belt, a framed work of art, or a keepsake passed down through generations.
The craft is meditative, creative, and deeply personal. People who try it tend to fall in love with it. And the community around needlepoint is one of the warmest and most welcoming in all of fiber arts. That's the world we're building a home for in Macon.
